
NEW YORK, May 25 (UPI) -- Knuckleball artist R.A. Dickey baffled Philadelphia for six innings Tuesday in the New York Mets' 8-0 rout of the Phillies.
Dickey (1-0), making an emergency start in place of the injured John Maine, twirled six shutout innings, scattering seven hits, walking three and striking out seven to notch his first win as a Met.
Raul Valdez completed the shutout with three scoreless innings of relief, picking up his first save of the year.
Jose Reyes went 3-for-5 with three runs scored and an RBI, Jeff Francoeur added a pair of hits and drove in two runs, and Jason Bay plated a pair for New York, which won for the third time in four games.
Jamie Moyer (5-4) was saddled with the loss, surrendering four runs on seven hits over five innings for the Phillies.
