FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., May 25 (UPI) -- Former New York Yankees player Jim Leyritz has agreed to pay $350,000 to the family of a woman killed in a 2007 car crash, family attorneys say.
Leyritz, 46, is awaiting trial on driving under the influence manslaughter charges stemming from the accident that killed Fredia Veitch, 30, of Plantation, Fla., the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports.
Veitch's family filed a wrongful death lawsuit in March 2008.
Police said both Leyritz and Veitch had blood-alcohol levels that exceeded Florida limits for drivers when the crash occurred at a Fort Lauderdale intersection Dec. 28, 2007.
Under terms of the settlement, Leyritz's insurance company will pay $250,000 to Veitch's husband and two children. Leyritz will pay $100,000 to the family in $1,000 monthly installments.
