CARSON, Calif., May 23 (UPI) -- Fabian Espindola came off the bench to score the game-winner in the 89th minute Saturday, giving Real Salt Lake a 2-1 decision over Chivas USA.
A second-half substitute, Espindola scored after finding himself alone with the ball in the Chivas USA penalty area and touching a shot past charging goalkeeper Zach Thornton into the net, breaking a 1-1 tie.
Defender Chris Wingert scored Salt Lake's initial marker in the first half, getting his first MLS goal in his 147th career league game.
The road win boosted RSL's record to 5-3-1.
Forward Justin Braun notched the only goal for Chivas USA (3-6-1), which came 9 minutes into the second half.
