MLB: Washington 4, Baltimore 3 (10 inns.)

WASHINGTON, May 23 (UPI) -- Josh Willigham's 10th-inning homer gave the Washington Nationals a 4-3 win over Baltimore Sunday and the rubber match of a three-game inter-league series.

Willingham connected for his eighth homer of the year off Cla Meredith (0-2), who came on in relief after Alfredo Simon had retired Willie Harris to begin the frame.

Willingham went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and Roger Bernadina drove in three runs with a bases-loaded double in the first inning for the Nationals.

Doug Slaten (2-0) got the victory by hurling a scoreless top of the 10th.

Major league saves leader Matt Capps blew his first save opportunity of the year in the ninth, allowing Baltimore to score twice to tie the game and force an extra frame.

Julio Lugo's run-scoring single plated Adam Jones with the tying run for Baltimore.
