OAKLAND, Calif., May 23 (UPI) -- Ben Sheets and four Oakland relievers teamed up for a three-hit shutout and Jake Fox drove in the tie-breaking run Sunday in the A's 3-0 win over San Francisco.
Sheets held the Giants to two hits over six innings, walking two and striking out eight. Michael Wurtz (1-0) got the victory, hurling a scoreless seventh inning.
Jerry Blevins and Brad Ziegler combined to pitch the eighth and Andrew Bailey collected his eighth save of the season with a scoreless ninth to preserve the win and give Oakland a three-game sweep of their Bay Area inter-league rivals.
Fox's run-scoring double gave the A's a 1-0 lead in the seventh and RBI singles by Kurt Suzuki and Ryan Sweeney in the next frame provided insurance.
Jonathan Sanchez (2-4) was the hard-luck loser for the Giants. He allowed a pair of runs on three hits over seven innings.
