GLADSTONE, N.J., May 22 (UPI) -- Top-seeded Jiyai Shin won two holes late in the contest Saturday to defeat Michelle Wie in the quarterfinals of the Sybase Match Play Championship.
Shin used a par on the 15th hole and a birdie on No. 16 at Hamilton Farm Golf Club in New Jersey to bounce Wie and take the Kathy Whitworth bracket 2 & 1, and advancing to Sunday morning's semifinals against Sun Young Yoo.
Yoo will face Shin after notching an upset win Saturday over fourth-seeded Yani Tseng, 2 & 1, to triumph in the Patty Berg bracket.
In the Mickey Wright bracket, 10th-seeded Angela Stanford emerged with the win, dispatching 15th-seeded Catriona Matthew, 5 & 3.
Stanford will go on to face the winner of Annika Sorenstam bracket, 30th-seeded Amy Yang, who beat Haeji Kang 1-up when Kang botched a 6-foot put to halve the 18th.
