STRASBOURG, France, May 22 (UPI) -- Maria Sharapova dispatched Germany's Kristina Barrois in straight sets Saturday to claim the Strasbourg International tennis event championship.
The No. 1 seed was down in the first set but rallied and went on to prevail over Barrios 7-5, 6-1, to collect her second title of the year and 22nd overall after also winning in Memphis.
Sharapova, the Russian one-time world No. 1, was playing in only her fifth event in 2010 due to elbow problems. She is seeded 12th in next week's French Open and has drawn qualifier Ksenia Pervak in the opening round at Roland Garros.
The French Open is the only Grand Slam event has the eluded Sharapova in her career.
Barrios, meanwhile, was appearing in her first career final. She held a 4-2 lead in the first set, but won only two more games after that.
