TORONTO, May 22 (UPI) -- Chad Barrett's goal 8 minutes into the second half Saturday boosted Toronto FC to a 1-0 victory over New England.
The score came on a corner kick by Sam Cronin. On the play, Barrett ran to the edge of the 6-yard box and positioned himself in front of New England's Pat Phelan to meet the pass, and directed it past goalie Preston Burpo.
Goalie Stefan Frei registered his second straight shutout after making four saves for Toronto (4-4-1), which last weekend earned its first road point with a 0-0 draw against the unbeaten Los Angeles Galaxy.
New England (2-6-2) continued to struggle, losing for the fifth time in seven games.
The Revolution had several chances early in the game, including a play in which Toronto defender Adrian Cann cleared a shot from Sainey Nyassi off the line.
