Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

HARRISON, N.J., May 20 (UPI) -- Eddie Gaven had a goal and an assist during the first half Thursday in leading the unbeaten Columbus Crew to a 3-1 victory over New York.
It was New York's third straight loss.
Columbus (5-0-2) moved past New York into first place in the Eastern Conference with 17 points in seven matches.
Gaven scored the game's first goal in the 35th minute when he headed home a cross from Frankie Hejduk. Gaven delivered a corner kick 3 minutes later that was headed past goalkeeper Bouna Coundoul by Andy Iro.
New York (5-4-0) had three shots hit the post before Tony Tchani scored in the 81st minute.
Emilio Renteria put the game away on a breakaway in the 83rd minute after defenders Mike Petke and Tim Ream collided.
