Facing an early 3-1 deficit, the Cardinals got a one-out single from Brendan Ryan in the second inning and he moved up on a sacrifice by Wainwright. Felipe Lopez drew a walk and Ryan Ludwick doubled home Ryan.

Holliday followed with another double that brought home both runners and ended the scoring for the day.

All four St. Louis runs came off Nate Robertson (4-4), who eventually gave up six hits and walked four in a six-inning effort. Ryan Franklin worked the ninth for his 10th save.

Florida had won six of its previous seven.
