ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., May 18 (UPI) -- The Cleveland Indians said Tuesday they put Asdrubal Cabrera on the 15-day disabled list after the shortstop broke his left arm in a game the night before.
Cabrera was hurt when Tampa Bay Rays designated hitter Hank Blalock sent a ground ball up the middle and the shortstop collided with third baseman Jhonny Peralta while diving to make the play. Peralta's knee appeared to hit Cabrera's left arm.
Cabrera will likely consult with doctors in the coming days to determine surgery is required repair the injury.
The 24-year-old infielder is hitting .287 as the team's lead-off hitter this season.
Jason Donald has been recalled from Class AAA Columbus to fill Cabrera's spot on the roster. Donald, who has yet to play in the big leagues, was hitting .277 at Columbus.
