MLB: Tampa Bay 4, LA Angels 3

ANAHEIM, Calif., May 12 (UPI) -- Rafael Soriano completed a one-hit effort by the Tampa Bay relief corps Wednesday and the Rays held on to defeat the Los Angeles Angels 4-3.

Tampa Bay took advantage of three unearned runs to win a series in Anaheim for the first time in 11 years. The Rays improved the best record in the majors to 24-10.

David Price (5-1) pitched into the seventh inning to get the win, giving up three runs on seven hits. He struck out six in what was his third consecutive victory.

Tampa Bay won its second straight after losing three in a row. The Rays scored twice on passed balls charged to Ryan Budde.

Jered Weaver (4-2) allowed only one earned run over seven innings and struck out a career-best 12, but still suffered the loss. The Angels have dropped 10 of their last 13 games.

A throwing error by Los Angeles third baseman Kevin Frandsen helped the Rays score twice in the first inning and Tampa Bay eventually took a 4-1 advantage through 5 1/2.

The Angels closed within 4-3 in the seventh, but a parade of five Tampa Bay relievers then came to the mound to shut down Los Angeles.

Soriano retired the side in order in the ninth for his ninth save.

Tampa Bay's record is the best in the American League through 34 games since the Chicago White Sox were 25-9 in 2005.
