PITTSBURGH, May 12 (UPI) -- Homer Bailey tossed a four-hit shutout and the Cincinnati Reds won their fifth straight game Wednesday, blanking Pittsburgh 5-0.
Bailey (1-2) was superb, allowing no walks and striking out six over nine full innings, baffling the Pirates in an economical 90-pitch performance. He did not allow a runner to reach third and surrendered only one extra-base hit in the gem.
Joey Votto socked a two-run homer in the first to give Bailey all the run support he would need and Drew Stubbs added a solo shot to boost the Reds to a three-game sweep at PNC Park.
Cincinnati won for the seventh time in nine games and allowed the Pirates only one run over the three-game series.
Pittsburgh starter Zach Duke (2-4) yielded five runs on nine hits over five innings, taking the loss as the Pirates dropped the fifth in six games.
