DALLAS, May 10 (UPI) -- The Dallas Cowboys have obtained offensive tackle Alex Barron from the St. Louis Rams for linebacker Bobby Carpenter, the teams said Monday.
In a trade for former first-round draft choices, the Cowboys sent Carpenter, the 18th overall pick out of Ohio State in 2006, to the Rams for Barron, whom St. Louis took with the 19th overall pick in 2005 from Florida State.
Carpenter has started only three of the 58 games he appeared in during his four-year stint with the Cowboys, totaling 66 tackles, 3 1/2 sacks and two passes defensed.
Barron, meanwhile, has started 74 of his 76 career games with St. Louis.
"The trade brings us a player who, although he is just entering his prime years in the NFL, has 74 career starts under his belt," said Dallas owner and general manager Jerry Jones. "That experience is invaluable for a young offensive lineman. It also speaks to his durability and versatility -- having started at both tackle positions."
