BOSTON, May 9 (UPI) -- Jon Lester controlled the New York Yankees over seven innings Sunday, helping the Boston Red Sox to a 9-3 victory.

Lester (3-2) was tough, holding New York to two runs on four hits while fanning seven and issuing just two walks as the Red Sox were able to salvage one win in a weekend series against their A.L. East rivals at Fenway Park.

Jeremy Hermida connected on a two-run homer and Adrian Beltre added a two-run double for the Red Sox, who pounded out 10 hits after being outscored 24-6 in the first two games of the series.

Nick Swisher and Alex Rodriguez hit solo homers for the Yankees, who saw their six-game winning streak snapped.

A.J. Burnett (4-1) lasted just 4 2/3 innings, surrendering nine hits and nine runs.
