PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla., May 9 (UPI) -- South African Tim Clark carded a five-under 67 Sunday to gain his first PGA Tour win, taking the Players Championship in Florida.
Clark finished first in his 206th career PGA start, ending at 16-under 272, one stroke ahead of Robert Allenby.
On a difficult day at the TPC Sawgrass course, Clark was one of only two golfers to break 70 during the final round. The South African took the lead when he reeled off five birdies during a six-hole stretch around the turn, then made several key shots at the end to keep the lead.
Allenby failed in his bid to nail down his first PGA Tour win in nine years. He ended with a 70 and finished alone in second place at 15-under 273 after being unable to birdie the 18th.
Lucas Glover shot a 70 to gain sole possession of third at minus-14.
Davis Love III (70), Heath Slocum (71), Bo Van Pelt (70), Ben Crane (72) and third-round leader Lee Westwood (74) shared fourth place at minus-13.
