MIAMI, May 5 (UPI) -- Barry Zito took a shutout into the eighth inning Wednesday and stayed unbeaten in helping San Francisco edge Florida 3-2.
Zito (5-0) allowed just three hits through seven innings, but gave up four straight singles and a run in the eighth before he was replaced by Sergio Romo.
Romo needed just six pitches to get a double play and a strikeout to end the threat and Brian Wilson came on in the ninth to collect his fifth save despite giving up a run.
Zito, the 2002 American League Cy Young Award winner, is off to the best start of his career. His five-game winning streak is his longest in four seasons.
Aaron Rowand drove in two San Francisco runs -- one of them with a ground out in the third and another with a homer in the sixth.
Florida fell to 3-5 on a nine-game homestand. Nate Robertson (2-3) took the loss, allowing three runs on six hits in 5 1/3 innings.
