LeBron James wins 2nd straight MVP award

NEW YORK, May 2 (UPI) -- Cleveland Cavaliers forward LeBron James has won his second straight NBA Most Valuable Player award, league officials said Sunday.

The Cavs superstar garnered 116 first-place votes and 1,205 total points from a panel of 122 sportswriters and broadcasters, far outdistancing Oklahoma City's Kevin Durant, who was second with 609 points.

Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers finished third with 599 points.

James has averaged 29.7 points, 7.3 rebounds and 8.6 assists in 76 games this season, leading the Cavaliers to an NBA-best regular-season record of 61-21.

James is the 10th player to win back-to-back NBA MVP honors. The others are Steve Nash, Tim Duncan, Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Moses Malone, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (twice), Wilt Chamberlain and Bill Russell.
