
LOS ANGELES, April 30 (UPI) -- Ryan Doumit tripled home two runs in the first inning Thursday and three Pittsburgh pitchers made them stand up for a 2-0 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Los Angeles lost its fifth straight and has dropped seven out of eight. The Dodgers returned home after a 2-7 road trip.
Brian Burres (1-1) limited Los Angeles to four hits over 5 1/3 innings, after which Jack Taschner and Evan Meek combined for 2 2/3 innings of hitless relief. Meek worked a perfect ninth for his first save.
Clayton Kershaw gave up the two runs on three hits over 7 1/3 innings. He struck out seven.
Lastings Milledge walked on a 3-2 pitch to open the Pittsburgh first and Andy LaRoche walked as well. After the next two batters struck out, Doumit blasted a triple to left for the only runs of the game.
Los Angeles put two runners on with one away in both the fourth and fifth but failed to take advantage of either situation.
Pittsburgh won its third straight.
