MLB: Detroit 10, LA Angels 6

DETROIT, April 30 (UPI) -- Brennan Boesch made his first career homer a grand slam Friday, highlighting an eight-run fourth that brought Detroit a 10-6 win over the Los Angeles Angels.

Gerald Laird hit a two-run blast in the big inning and Scott Sizemore added a solo shot in helping the Tigers to their third straight victory.

Boesch had four of Detroit's 16 hits and Johnny Damon went 3-for-4 with a triple and two RBI.

Rick Purcell (2-2) capitalized on the offensive show to get the win. He gave up five runs on eight hits in 5 1/3. Joel Pineiro (2-3) was blasted for 10 runs on 10 hits in 3 1/3. He had given up 10 runs total in his first four starts this season.

Torii Hunter drove in three runs for the Angels, who opened a 10-game road trip.

Detroit sent 11 batters to the plate in the fourth inning and scored the eight runs on six hits. Boesch's first big league homer came in his 20th at bat.
