Injury knocks Endorsement from derby

LOUISVILLE, Ky., April 28 (UPI) -- Endorsement, the winner of the Sunland Derby, broke an ankle during a workout Wednesday and has been pulled from Saturday's Kentucky Derby.

Trainers said Endorsement was having his final pre-derby workout Wednesday morning when the injury occurred. It was unknown if the injury would have long-lasting effects on Endorsement.

Endorsement won the Sunland Derby as a 11-1 long shot and was also seen as drawing long odds for the Kentucky Derby. The colt won two of four starts and more than $430,000, however.

The scratch allows Make Music for Me to be added to the Kentucky Derby field.
