MLB: Boston 13, Toronto 12

TORONTO, April 27 (UPI) -- Jason Varitek drove in four runs and Dustin Pedroia had three hits Monday when the Boston Red Sox outslugged Toronto 13-12.

Varitek was 3-for-5 and scored twice while Pedroia drove in a pair of runs and crossed the plate three times for the Red Sox, who pounded out 18 hits and won for the fifth time in seven games.

The Red Sox went ahead for good with four runs in the sixth inning to break a 9-9 tie. After Toronto reliever Shawn Camp (1-1) put on two Boston runners with two outs, Casey Janssen came in and gave up an RBI double to Darnell McDonald.

Marco Scutaro followed with a run-scoring single and Pedroia capped the outburst by lining a two-run double to left, making it a 13-9 game.

Scott Schoeneweis (1-0) got the win for Boston and Jonathan Papelbon pitched a perfect ninth for his sixth save.

Toronto was led by Jose Bautista with a three-run homer and four RBI while Lyle Overbay contributed a double, solo homer and four RBI.
