PITTSBURGH, April 27 (UPI) -- Former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Mike Tomczak has been charged with assaulting his wife at their home in Bell Acres, Pa., police said.
Tomczak, 47, was arrested Monday on two counts of simple assault against Dawn Tomczak, who suffered a minor scrape and bruises to her foot, Bell Acres police Chief Brian Brown said.
Tomczak was released on his own recognizance and ordered to appear for a preliminary hearing May 4, The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported Tuesday.
Police had been called to the couple's home before for domestic problems but Monday was the first time charges were warranted, Brown said.
Dawn Tomczak alleged her husband yelled at her and stomped on her foot, Brown said.
The Tomczaks were not available for comment, the Tribune-Review said.
