Altman named Oregon men's hoops coach

EUGENE, Ore., April 26 (UPI) -- The University of Oregon has hired Dana Altman of Creighton as its new men's basketball head coach, school officials said Monday.

Altman, 51, has racked up a 327-176 record in 16 seasons at the helm for the Bluejays, including an 18-16 mark compiled last year en route to a loss to Missouri State in the semifinals of the CollegeInsider.com Tournament.

Last year's record broke a string of 11 straight years in which Altman led Creighton to 20 or more wins. He has taken the Bluejays to post-season play in 13 consecutive years.

Altman succeeds Ernie Kent, the program's all-time wins leader, who was let go after 13 years. The Ducks ended last year 16-16 overall and 7-11 in the Pac-10.
