BOSTON, April 25 (UPI) -- Matt Wieters stroked a two-run single in the top of the 10th inning Sunday, lifting the Baltimore Orioles to a 7-6 win over Boston.
Boston's Scott Atchison (0-1) was ineffective after coming on in the 10th, allowing a single, a double and walk before exiting in favor of Scott Schoeneweis.
After Atchison gave up an RBI single to Rhyne Hughes, Wieters delivered the knockout blow for the Orioles, who boosted their season's record to 3-19.
The O's got a big scare in the bottom of the inning, however, as Jim Johnson (1-1) gave up two runs, allowing the Red Sox to get within 7-6. Cla Meredith came on to record the final two outs, notching his first career save in 272 relief appearances.
Kevin Youkilis got three hits with an RBI for Boston.
