PITTSBURGH, April 25 (UPI) -- The Pittsburgh Pirates said pitcher Chris Jakubauskas was placed on the disabled list Sunday, one day after he was struck in the head by a line drive.
Jakubauskas was hit in the forehead by a line drive off the bat of the Houston Astros' Lance Berkman in the first inning of Saturday's game at Minute Maid Park. He remained conscious and was carried off the field with an ice pack applied to his forehead.
The 31-year-old hurler was taken to Methodist Hospital in Houston and was kept there overnight. Doctors diagnosed a head contusion and concussion, the Pirates said.
Left-handed pitcher Brian Burres has been recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis to take Jakubauskas' spot on the roster.
