Mark Reynolds hit a two-run blast in that inning, Adam LaRoche delivered a solo shot and Chris Snyder tacked on a two-run homer. That outburst allowed the Diamondbacks to overcome an early two-run deficit.

Kris Benson (1-1) lasted six innings to get the win. He allowed two runs on eight hits and struck out five.

Four relievers combined to give up one hit and one earned run the rest of the way. Chad Qualls came on in the ninth after Philadelphia had scored a run to record the final out and collect his third save.

The loss went to Cole Hamels (2-2), who was touched for six runs on eight hits in six innings.
