Aaron Brooks voted NBA's Most Improved

NEW YORK, April 22 (UPI) -- Houston guard Aaron Brooks has been voted the NBA's Most Improved Player for last season.

Brooks averaged 19.6 points. 5.3 assists and 2.6 rebounds a game in the 2009-10 season after posting an 11.2 point-per-game average in 2008-09. The increase in average of 8.4 points was the highest in the NBA.

He set a team record with 209 3-pointers and is just the sixth player in NBA history to have at least 200 3-point shots and 400 assists in the same season.

Brooks received 62 first-place votes from the 123 sports writers and broadcasters who decide the award.

With 5 points awarded for a first-place mention, 3 for a second-place listing and 1 for third, Brooks totaled 403 points. Oklahoma City's Kevin Durent, Memphis's Marc Gasol and San Antonio's George Hill tied for second in the voting with 101 points each.
