PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla., April 21 (UPI) -- Tiger Woods said he will play in The Players Championship next month, tournament officials confirmed Wednesday.

Woods has played only in the Masters, finishing tied for fourth, since November when he began a self-imposed exile from competitive golf following the disclosure of a series of extramarital affairs.

He has since said he would play in the Quail Hollow Championship in North Carolina next week. The Players Championship is the following week -- May 3-9 -- at TPC Sawgrass at Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.

"We are thrilled to add Tiger Woods to The Players Championship field and really appreciate the fact that he gave us advance notice so we can generate additional excitement here in the community," tournament Executive Director Jay Monahan said. "This is a huge boost for what was already shaping up to be an incredible week for our fans on site and those watching around the world."

Woods has also said he would play in the U.S. Open, June 17-20 at Pebble Beach, Calif., and the AT&T National, July 1-4 at Newtown Square, Pa.
