Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

SAN DIEGO, April 21 (UPI) -- John Garland hurled seven strong innings and Nick Hundley socked a two-run homer Wednesday as the San Diego Padres downed San Francisco 5-2.
Garland (1-2) allowed only one run on six hits, walking two and striking out one to lead the Padres to while Adrian Gonzalez hit a solo shot and knocked in a pair of runs in the victory.
Gonzalez's homer came in the first inning off Todd Wellemeyer (0-3) while Hundley's blast in the fifth boosted San Diego's lead to 4-1.
Chase Headley chipped in with a double and two RBI while Edgar Cabrera plated a pair of runs for the Padres.
Pablo Sandoval knocked a solo homer in the ninth and Nick Schierholtz also drove in a run for the Giants.
