MLB: Los Angeles Angels 6, Detroit 5

ANAHEIM, Calif., April 21 (UPI) -- Howie Kendrick drove in three runs and Hideki Matsui had two RBI Tuesday in the Los Angeles Angels' 6-5 win over Detroit.

Scott Kazmir (1-1) picked up the win after giving up two runs on six hits and seven strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings.

The win extended the Angels' winning streak to five games while the Tigers lost for the fifth time in their last six outings.

Rick Porcello (1-1) took the loss after giving up six runs on eight hits in 4 1/3 innings. Miguel Cabrera drove in three runs and Brandon Inge knocked in two for Detroit.

Los Angeles jumped ahead 3-0 in the second inning on an RBI single by Maicer Izturis and a two-run double by Kendrick. Kendrick made it 4-0 in the fourth on an RBI fielder's choice.

Matsui's fifth-inning double made it 6-0, but the Tigers struck back in the sixth on Inge's two-run double off reliever Jason Bulger.

Cabrera doubled off Scot Shields with the bases loaded in the seventh to make it 6-5, but Kevin Jepsen and Fernando Rodney held the Tigers at bay the rest of the way. Rodney earned his fifth save.
