BOSTON, April 21 (UPI) -- Darnell McDonald's RBI single in the ninth inning Tuesday boosted the Boston Red Sox to a 7-6 victory over Texas.
McDonald also belted a game-tying two-run homer in the eighth for the Red Sox, who snapped a five-game losing streak.
The winning rally began when Kevin Youkilis led off the ninth with an infield single against Frank Francisco (2-3) and advanced to second on a wild pitch. A sacrifice by Bill Hall got Youkilis to third.
Mike Lowell was intentionally walked, Adrian Beltre popped out and Jason Varitek walked to load the bases, setting up McDonald's game-winner.
Jonathan Papelbon (1-1) notched the victory after holding the Rangers scoreless in top of the ninth.
Michael Young and Nelson Cruz each got a pair of hits and an RBI for Texas.
