NEW YORK, April 20 (UPI) -- Cincinnati Reds pitcher Edinson Volquez was suspended for 50 games following a positive test for a banned substance, baseball officials said Tuesday.
Volquez, 26, was seen as a rising star in 2008 when he posted a 17-6 record with a 3.21 earned run average. He struck out 206 batters in 196 innings and was selected to the National League All-Star team.
