Pineiro (2-1) allowed nine hits and struck out four and Fernando Rodney tossed a 1-2-3 ninth to get his fourth save.
Howie Kendrick was 2-for-2 and scored a run for the Angels, who have put together a four-game winning streak following a 3-7 start to the season.
Detroit starter Dontrelle Willis (0-1) held the Angels to two runs on four hits and two walks in six innings but was still tagged with the loss.
Johnny Damon and Magglio Ordonez both went 2-for-4 for the Tigers, who lost for the fourth time in five games.
The Angels scored twice in bottom of the third when Kendrick reached on a single and scored on a double by Jeff Mathis, who then came in on a fielder's choice.
