NEW YORK, April 20 (UPI) -- The New York Jets have signed free agent defensive end-linebacker Jason Taylor, The New York Times reported Tuesday.
Without naming its sources, the Times said the Jets added Taylor -- a longtime nemesis from the Miami Dolphins -- just days before the NFL Draft, giving the team more flexibility to make draft-day moves.
The newspaper said the pass-rushing specialist, a six-time Pro Bowl selection, will likely be used only as a lineman rather than as a rusher-linebacker hybrid as Miami had employed him.
Taylor, 35, recorded seven sacks and 42 tackles for the Dolphins last year.
Jets Coach Rex Ryan has said improving the team's pass rush was a priority this off-season, as was obtaining a wide receiver. The team appears to have answered those needs with the free agent signings of Taylor and wide receiver Santonio Holmes, the Times said.
