ST. LOUIS, April 17 (UPI) -- Felipe Lopez accounted for all the St. Louis runs with a seventh-inning grand slam homer Friday, giving St. Louis a 4-3 triumph over the New York Mets.
The Cardinals won for the third time in four games, getting a very shaky fourth save of the season from Ryan Franklin.
Oliver Perez took a shutout and a one-run lead into the seventh, but was replaced by Fernando Nieve (0-1) after giving up a leadoff single to David Freese. Nieve then hit Skip Schumaker with a pitch and walked pinch-hitter Matt Holliday to load the bases.
That brought up Lopez, who hit a 2-1 pitch from Nieve over the wall in left.
St. Louis still had a 4-1 lead going into the ninth, but Franklin gave up an RBI single to Frank Catalanotto and a run-scoring ground out to Jose Reyes before finally getting Luis Castillo on a grounder to end the game.
Chris Carpenter (2-0) picked up the victory, giving up an unearned run on four hits in seven innings while striking out 10.
