OAKLAND, Calif., April 16 (UPI) -- Ben Sheets threw six shutout innings Thursday and the Oakland Athletics added to Baltimore's early-season woes with a 6-2 victory over the Orioles.
Baltimore has lost seven straight games and has just one win in 10 games this season.
Sheets (1-0), earning his first decision in three starts, allowed five hits, walked three and struck out four. The Baltimore runs came off relievers Tyson Ross in the seventh and Jeremy Blevins in the ninth.
Chad Pennington drove in two runs for the Athletics and Oakland made the most of its nine hits. Two of the Oakland runs scored on sacrifice flies, another on a ground out and another on an error.
David Hernandez (0-2) took the loss, surrendering four runs on seven hits in five innings.
Baltimore is tied for the fewest number of victories in the major leagues this season. Houston earlier Thursday became the last team to pick up a win.
