Wozniacki reaches Charleston quarters

CHARLESTON, S.C., April 15 (UPI) -- Top-seeded Caroline Wozniacki earned a spot in the quarterfinals Thursday with a victory over Patty Schnyder at the Family Circle Cup in Charleston, S.C.

Wozniacki, who claimed a title last week in Florida, ousted Schnyder 6-2, 7-5 and will take on Nadia Petrova in the quarterfinals.

Petrova, the champion here four years ago, coasted past Aleksandra Wozniak in the third round 6-2, 6-4.

No. 2 seed Jelena Jankovic had an easy time making it to the quarterfinals with a 6-3, 6-1 decision over Evgeniya Rodina.

In other third-round matches, No. 4 Samantha Stosur defeated Vera Dushevina 6-1, 3-6, 6-1; No. 8 Daniela Hantuchova rallied against Angelique Kerber 6-7 (6-8), 7-5, 6-3; No. 7 Vera Zvonareva brushed past Alona Bondarenko 6-2, 6-1; and 13th-seeded Melanie Oudin won over Christina McHale 6-4, 6-0.

The only surprise of the day came when Peng Shuai knocked out No. 10 seed Elena Vesnina 7-5, 2-6, 6-2.
