DENVER, April 15 (UPI) -- Mike Pelfrey allowed five hits over seven innings Thursday and teamed with two relievers to bring the New York Mets a 5-0 win over Colorado.
New York avoided a three-game sweep at the hands of the Rockies, thanks chiefly to a strong outing by Pelfrey (2-0). He struck out six and did not walk a batter in following up his six-inning appearance to open the season last week against Washington.
Neither Pedro Feliciano nor Francisco Rodriguez allowed a hit while working one inning each to help the Mets halt a four-game losing streak.
Jason Bay put the Mets in front in the first with an RBI single and Pelfrey helped his own cause by driving in a run with a base hit in the fifth. The other three New York runs scored on a pair of fielder's choice ground outs and a wild pitch.
Jorge De La Rosa (1-1) took the loss, giving up five runs on eight hits with five walks in six innings. De La Rosa threw seven shutout innings in his season debut against San Diego.
