LEXINGTON, Ky., April 14 (UPI) -- U.S. prep star Enes Kanter has signed a letter of intent to play basketball at the University of Kentucky, head Coach John Calipari said Wednesday.
Kanter, a senior at Stoneridge Preparatory School in Simi Valley, Calif., is ranked 25th on ESPNU's Top 100 and has gained a five-star rating from recruiting services Rivals.com and Scout.com.
"Enes has the body and potential to be special," Calipari said. "I look forward to working with all the incoming players and our returnees as we build on the foundation we set with our 35-3, Elite Eight team."
A native of Turkey, Kanter is 6-foot-10 and weighs 235 pounds.
He impressed scouts by scoring 34 points and grabbing 13 rebounds at last weekend's Nike Hoop Summit in Portland, Ore. He went 13-of-21 from the field, breaking the Summit's record for field goals made and attempted.
He played for the Turkish under-18 national team last year and was named the championship's MVP. Turkey won the bronze medal at the European Championships in France.
