
DENVER, April 14 (UPI) -- Greg Smith drove in two runs and pitched seven strong innings Tuesday in Colorado's 11-3 romp over the New York Mets.
Smith (1-1), who spent last season in the minor leagues, allowed two runs on six hits and struck out eight. He contributed a run-scoring single in the Rockies' two-run third inning.
Seth Smith drove in three runs for Colorado and the Rockies also had two-RBI nights from Clint Barmes and Brad Hawpe.
David Wright had a solo home run for the Mets. Rod Barajas and Jason Bay drove in the other two runs. John Maine (0-1) lasted three innings and gave up eight runs on seven hits.
Colorado scored a pair of runs in the first inning and then added six more in the third inning, all with two outs. Seth Smith had the big blow in the frame with a two-run homer.
Wright homered in the sixth and Barajas drove in a run in the seventh with a sacrifice fly but the Rockies scored three in the bottom of the seventh.
Bay tacked on New York's final run with an RBI single in the eighth.
