MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga., April 12 (UPI) -- Prosecutors in Georgia said Monday they won't pursue criminal charges against Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, accused of sexual assault.

Ocmulgee Judicial Circuit District Attorney Fredric D. Bright announced the decision about a week after police wrapped up their investigation into a 20-year-old woman's allegations. The young woman had told authorities she was accosted by Roethlisberger March 5 at a Milledgeville, Ga., nightclub.

Roethlisberger's lawyer had said the pro football player was innocent.

Roethlisberger, 28, owns a vacation home near Milledgeville and had traveled into town to celebrate his birthday.

He still faces a civil lawsuit accusing him of sexually assaulting a 30-year-old woman in a Lake Tahoe, Nev., resort hotel in July 2008. In that case, Roethlisberger's lawyers said he had consensual sex with the hotel employee, Andrea McNulty.
