AUGUSTA, Ga., April 11 (UPI) -- Phil Mickelson carded a 5-under 67 Sunday, rallying to post a three-stroke victory in the Masters Tournament and claim his third green championship jacket.

Mickelson, who won his fourth major title, ended the day at 16-under 272, three shots ahead of third-round leader Lee Westwood, who shot a 71.

Mickelson posted the win thanks to some amazing shots on the Augusta National Golf Club back nine. Much as is his routine, his drives were sprayed around and he was forced to make several improbable recoveries -- two of them coming on the back-nine par-5 holes.

"This has been a special day," Mickelson said after the win. "It's something I'll always cherish."

Mickelson's third championship tied him with Sam Snead, Gary Player, Nick Faldo and Jimmy Demaret. He trails only Jack Nicklaus, who has six Masters' titles, and Arnold Palmer and Tiger Woods, with four each.

Anthony Kim finished third after firing a 7-under 65 for 12-under 276 while in his return to competitive golf Woods shot a 3-under 69 Sunday. He finished tied for fourth with K.J. Choi, who also had a 69, at minus-11.

Woods expressed disappointment at his rustiness after a four-month absence due to his marital infidelity scandal.

"I entered this event and I only enter events to win and I didn't get it done," Woods said. "I didn't hit the ball good enough and I made too many mistakes around the greens, consequently I'm not there."

Woods, however, did manage to sink two eagles Sunday, one on the seventh hole and the other on the par-5 15th. The holes allowed him to tie a Masters record with four eagles in a tournament.

Fred Couples, 50, finished with a 2-under 70, coming in sixth at 9-under 279.

HOUSTON, April 11 (UPI) -- Argentina's Juan Ignacio Chela outlasted third-seeded American Sam Querrey Sunday to claim the $500,000 U.S. Men's Clay Court Championship in Houston.

Chela defeated Querrey 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 in a match that lasted just under 2 1/2 hours, winning his fifth career title -- all of them accomplished on clay.

The win was the Argentine's first title since 2007 when he emerged victorious in Acapulco.

Querrey, playing his first career clay-court final, was stymied despite serving 11 aces, thanks mainly to a first-serve percentage of just 57. He was angling for his fourth career title and second of the season.

Wozniacki downs Govortsova in MPS final

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla., April 11 (UPI) -- Caroline Wozniacki won a second straight MPS Group Championships title Sunday, downing Olga Govortsova 6-2, 7-5 in the Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., finals.

Wozniacki, the Danish world No. 2, logged her 10th straight win at the event and a seventh career WTA Tour crown in dispatching the unseeded Belarus native, who coughed up eight double-faults in the loss.

Wozniacki won 70 percent of her first serves en route to evening her career finals record at 7-7.

The MPS event marked the first time Wozniacki and Govortsova had met. Govortsova last reached a final in a 2009 loss to Francesca Schiavone in Moscow.

Fans in an estimated 4,100 cars in the facility's Red Lot watched the cloud of white dust as the Irving, Texas, stadium went down, WFAA-TV, Dallas/Fort Worth reported.

The broadcaster said the crowd cheered wildly as the concrete and steel stadium collapsed, although a few wiped away tears.

"It's going to be missed; everybody who goes through here every day," one woman told WFAA. "It's going to be sad."

The Fort Worth (Texas) Star-Telegram said the stadium was imploded by a series of 55 detonations set a half-second apart.

Texas Stadium was replaced last year by Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Arlington and Irving are suburbs of Dallas.
