PHILADELPHIA, April 11 (UPI) -- Claude Giroux's goal in the third shootout round Sunday found the net, giving the Philadelphia Flyers a 2-1 win over the New York Rangers and a playoff berth.
Giroux did a stutter-step to deke New York goalie Henrik Lundqvist on the shootout tally, and Flyers netminder Brian Boucher followed it up by denying Olli Jokinen on the Rangers' ensuing last-gasp attempt to extend the contest.
With the win, the Flyers claimed the seventh Eastern Conference playoff spot while the Rangers finished out of the post-season, coming one point short of making the cut.
Matt Carle got Philadelphia's lone regulation score and Boucher made 24 saves in the Flyers' victory.
Jody Shelley notched New York's only goal in the first period while Lundqvist was valiant in defeat, making 46 saves as the Rangers finished the season with a 38-33-11 mark.
