WASHINGTON, April 11 (UPI) -- David Krejci and Miroslav Satan netted shootout goals and Michael Ryder added two regulation tallies Sunday as the Boston Bruins downed Washington 4-3.
In the two clubs' season finales, Satan sent the Verizon Center crowd home disappointed when his backhander past Washington netminder Semyon Varlamov ended the shootout and the game with a win for the playoff-bound Bruins.
Kreji had given Boston the shootout lead by netting a shot from the post, and Bruins' netminder Tim Thomas made the advantage hold up by turning aside Matt Bradley with a right pad stop to set up Satan's game-winner.
Ryder's two first period goals tied the game at one apiece and, with 5:05 left, put Boston up 2-1. On the second score, he took a pass from Milan Lucic and scored from the slot.
Marco Sturm added a game-tying goal late in the third period while Thomas stopped 34 shots in the win.
Alexander Semin, Eric Belanger and Mike Knuble scored as Washington cruised into playoffs by finishing the regular season 5-0-2.
