NHL: Boston 4, Carolina 2

BOSTON, April 10 (UPI) -- The Boston Bruins scored an NHL-record three short-handed goals in the second period Saturday en route to a 4-2 victory over Carolina.

Daniel Paille, Blake Wheeler and Steve Begin each found in the net within 64 seconds early in the second period while the Bruins were a man short, lifting Boston to the win and clinching an Eastern Conference playoff berth.

Milan Lucic added Boston's fourth goal in the final minute. With the win -- their third in four games -- the Bruins moved into the sixth seed with 89 points, two ahead of Montreal.

Boston netminder Tuukka Rask turned aside 33 shots in the win.

The Hurricanes got goals from Erik Cole and Pat Dwyer in defeat.
