CHARLOTTE, N.C., April 10 (UPI) -- Larry Hughes scored 18 points and hit two late free throws to ice the win Saturday as the Charlotte Bobcats downed Detroit 99-95.
D.J. Augustin gave Charlotte the lead for good, 96-95, on a fade-away jumper with just over a minute to go. The Pistons then missed three straight shots while Gerald Wallace (14 points) hit a free throw for Charlotte and Hughes followed with his two insurance foul shots with five seconds left.
Stephen Jackson added 14 points for the Bobcats, who strengthened their playoff positioning with the win. They can now finish no worse than seventh in the Eastern Conference and could gain the sixth seed if they finish tied with Miami.
Ben Gordon put in 21 points and dished off seven assists for the Pistons in the loss.
