
KANSAS CITY, Mo., April 8 (UPI) -- Miguel Cabrera's three-run homer in the eighth inning Thursday sent the Detroit Tigers to a 7-3 victory over Kansas City.
Cabrera went 4-for-5, including an RBI single. Magglio Ordonez had a solo home run among his three hits.
Detroit left-hander Dontrelle Willis, in his first regular-season start since June 14, gave up two runs on seven hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out four.
The victory went to reliever Eddie Bonine (1-0), who served up a scoreless seventh.
The Tigers only got to Royals starter Brian Bannister for six hits and one run in six innings. They roughed up reliever Luis Mendoza (0-1) for five runs in just 1 2/3 innings.
Scott Podsednik had four hits for the Royals. Jose Guillen, Billy Butler and David DeJesus each knocked in a run.
