Charles first pick in WNBA draft

SECAUCUS, N.J., April 8 (UPI) -- University of Connecticut center Tina Charles Thursday became the No. 1 pick of the 2010 WNBA draft, taken by the Connecticut Sun.

The 6-foot-4 center was named the Big East Player of the Year and winner of the Naismith Trophy.

Charles helped the Huskies to their second straight undefeated season, culminating in a 53-47 win over Stanford for the NCAA women's title Tuesday.

She averaged 16.7 points and 10.3 rebounds during the NCAA tournament.

The Huskies have won 78 games in a row, the longest winning streak in women's college basketball history.
