MINNEAPOLIS, April 6 (UPI) -- Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre, a greybeard by pro football standards, announced Tuesday he is also a grandfather.

Favre, 40, and his wife Deanna said on the signal-caller's official Web site that they have welcomed their new grandson, Parker Brett, into the world.

"Deanna and I are very proud and excited to welcome our new grandson Parker Brett to the Favre family," the Favres wrote. "Parker Brett was born on Friday, April 2, weighing 7 lbs. 7 oz and we're pleased to say that both Mom, Dad and Parker Brett are healthy and doing great."

ESPN reported that the child is the son of Favre's daughter Brittany.

"A grandpa at 40. It almost makes me feel old," the veteran quarterback told the broadcaster. He said the arrival of a grandchild makes his deliberations on whether to return for another season with the Vikings "more complicated."

But, he added, "right now I'm not thinking much about football."
